The Rutherford Congregational Church (“RCC”) has been known for almost 80
years as the “White Church on the Hill” located on the corner of Prospect Street
and Union Avenue at the west end of Rutherford. While we originally drew only
congregants who lived nearby and could walk to our church, nowadays many of
our members come from neighboring towns.
Our congregation traces its beginnings to 1907, and we are looking forward to
marking our 100th anniversary with many activities in 2007. Today, our church is a
vital part of the United Church of Christ ("UCC") denomination.
RCC is a strong part of the community, with its fellowship hall hosting various
community activities including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, serving as a municipal
voting center and AA meetings, among other community support groups. We are
especially fond of housing the Rutherford Child Care Center, which was founded
as a mission of the church.
As a UCC church, we are dedicated to a vibrant view of Christianity. In pursuit of
our Christian ideals, the Church succeeds as an inter-generational, open and
affirming congregation. Christian education of youth and adults is an important
and dynamic part of our congregational life. Action in mission is evidenced by our
financial and service commitment to all of God's children. Our ministry is centered
on vibrant worship.
The UCC is a denomination of commitment and intellectual discovery. RCC
holds its mission clearly and seriously, by “Keeping Faith, Reaching Out,
Welcoming All." Rutherford Congregational Church is united and uniting in its
desire to nurture its neighbors in need, and to promote fellowship.
Sunday Worship Service & Sunday School begin at 10:30, followed by coffee
and refreshments. Nursery care is available.
