Mission

Mission Board Statement

It shall plan and initiate action and education projects and recommend to
the Council involvement in world and community ministries.  It shall
recommend to the Council programs and methods for the raising of
benevolent funds and the disbursement of all monies collected as
benevolence to such arms of the church as the ‘Association’ Conference
and United Church of Christ.  It will administer the Student Loan Fund and
Special Assistance Fund.

Projects Supported by RCC Missions

Habitat for Humanity – Building homes in partnership with God’s people in
need.

Bergen County Council of Churches  -  Expressing our unity as God’s
children and renewing our efforts to confront social concerns of this century.  

Rutherford Interfaith Council  -  Local organization consisting of
representation of various houses of worship in Rutherford working together to
raise awareness and funds for needy projects.

Lancaster Seminary  -  Contributions raised help support seminaries with
room & board, overnight lodging for youth programs and adult church
leadership retreats and renovations as needed.

Rutherford Senior Kipp Center  -  A senior center leading older adults into
a stronger, healthier, active and richer life through innovative programs and
services.  The center is a fun interactive and enriching environment that offers
educational and cultural programs, wellness and social activities, volunteer
opportunities and a nutritious noontime meal.

Our Churches Wider Mission  -   Gifts support our common mission in
New Jersey and the Central Atlantic Conference, in the United States and
throughout the world.  Working together in Christ’s name for all of God’s
people

Pennies for Joao  -  A special outreach of the Christian Education Board to
support the well being of an 11 year old Brazilian Boy.

Outreach Programs

Homeless Meals  -  volunteers cooking and serving those less fortunate at
a food shelter in Hackensack, NJ.

Peter’s Place  -  A walk-in overnight shelter in Hackensack, NJ that
operates in winter months.  Volunteers are needed to assist staff during
overnight hours.  A collection of new socks & underwear is provided by the
church annually.

Care Cans  -  A free-will offering collected on an ongoing basis.  One half of
the money goes to church world service for local and world disaster relief
and one half goes to the Rutherford Community Pantry.

Rutherford Community Pantry  -  The church assists the pantry in
keeping the shelves stocked.  The Rutherford Community Pantry has served
over 125 local households in recent years with over 1500 visits distributing
more than 3000 bags of groceries.

Eyes to See  -  The church collects eyeglasses, Rx sunglasses and lenses
for the Interchurch Medical Assistance in partnership with Our Churches
Wider Mission.  The glasses are sent to third world countries for victims of
blindness.

Airborne Altoona  -  Participating churches are provided with wish lists of
family members with age, gender and special gift requests.  These gifts are
sent to Altoona, Pennsylvania to bring Christmas Cheer to struggling
families.

One Great Hour of Sharing  -  An annual special offering that helps us
reach out to Our Churches Wider Mission.

Neighbors in Need  -  An annual special offering that helps us reach out to

Crop Walk  -  Sponsored by the Rutherford Interfaith Council, it is an
organized effort of raising funds to help fight hunger.  Twenty five percent of
all money raised stays in Rutherford, with the remaining distributed to our
wider community.
